Women’s Under 16 Squad Announced for Sweden Tournament

Thu, May 10 2018

The Republic of Ireland Women’s Under-16 Head Coach Sharon Boyle has unveiled her 20-player playing squad for the forthcoming UEFA Development Tournament in Sweden that is due to take place next week.

The Girls in Green are due to face host nation Sweden, Austria and Turkey in a series of games that will run from Saturday the 12th of May right up until Wednesday the 16th as Boyle is looking to grant her inexperienced side some much needed international experience in the coming days.

The squad also includes eight players who were named in Colin Bell’s Under-17 squad for the UEFA European Championship Elite Round qualifiers in March.

“This age group is about development and getting them ready for competition at the Under-17 level. We want to improve the players' confidence too on the international stage”, Boyle revealed after speaking with the Football Association of Ireland.

“The three games will be a huge test for the squad. Plenty of the players are playing outside Ireland for the first time.”

Ireland kick of their tournament on Saturday afternoon at 2pm against host nation Sweden before they will face a showdown against Austria on Monday evening at 5.30pm.

Boyle’s charges will then look to finish their campaign off on a positive note on Wednesday morning with a clash against Turkey in Lysekil at 9.30am.

All times stated are in Irish time.
