Sligo Rovers could sign goalkeeper Mitchell Beeney permanently following Chelsea releaseWed, Jun 13 2018
Sligo Rovers could complete a permanent move for on-loan Chelsea goalkeeper Mitchell Beeney after the Englishman's contract with Chelsea expires this month.
The Bit o' Red last week parted company with long-time number one Micheál Schlingermann after a spell on the sidelines with a neck injury saw him fall behind the loanee in the pecking order.
And with under-19 goalkeeper Edward McGinty the only other senior netminder on the books at the Showgrounds, Sligo are likely to complete Beeney's signing when his current loan comes to an end.
Beeney – the son of former Leeds United and one-time Republic of Ireland (though he ultimately wasn't eligible) squad member Mark Beeney – as the last line in a generally solid Sligo rearguard.
Leeds native Beeney came through the ranks with Gillingham before signing for Chelsea as a 17-year-old in 2007.
The England under-19 international had loan spells with Newport County and Crawley Town before Sligo, but leaves Stamford Bridge without making an impression on the first team.
