Linfield have appointed former Shelbourne, Bohemians and Shamrock Rovers manager Pat Fenlon as their new general manager.

The 49-year-old spent two years with the Belfast club during a decorated playing career and takes up the role of off-field development later this month.

Dubliner Fenlon most recently occupied a similar role in strategic development with Waterford before stepping back at the end of 2017 following their promotion to the Premier Division.

His role at Wndsor Park will include working with the club's board of directors to formulate a new 5-10 year strategic plan.

During a 14-year managerial career, Fenlon won five Premier Division titles, three with Shelbourne and two with Bohemians, before taking the reins at Hibernian in 2011.

Fenlon guided the Edinburgh club to successive Scottish Cup finals before leaving the club in 2013, and spent two years with Shamrock Rovers before moving away from on-field management.

After a youth career with English club Chelsea, Fenlon returned to Ireland and represented St Patrick's Athletic, Bohs, Linfield, Rovers and Shelbourne, winning four league titles.

“I am pleased and honoured to be offered this exciting new position at Linfield Football Club,” Fenlon told the club's media team.

“I enjoyed some wonderful years here as a player and the club means a lot to me. This is a club with huge potential and I am excited by the opportunity to develop it further. “

Chairman Roy McGivern added: ““This is a very exciting appointment by the club and I am delighted to welcome Pat Fenlon back to Windsor Park.

“The position of General Manager is a key strategic appointment by the club and Pat’s extensive experience in football will be a great asset to us.

“We have fantastic facilities at Windsor Park and at Midgley Park and Pat will be working closely with the Board of Directors to maximise the opportunities we now have to take the club forward and to strengthen our position within the local game.”
